An introductory overview to the materials and techniques used to fabricate items for use in cosplay (armor, weapons, jewelry, etc.). Techniques will be demonstrated and samples of each material type will be available to examine. Materials covered will include: Open and closed cell foam, thermal plastic, leather, wood, polymer clay, cardboard, fiberglass resin/Bondo, found or repurposed objects, and basic electronic components. The goal of the workshop is for participants to gain enough knowledge of materials, tools, and techniques that they can begin to fabricate their own high quality cosplay items.

Advanced steps will be discussed for those who wish to pursue makeup further. We will cover liquid latex wounds, creme makeup, blood recipes and bruising. For best results, attendees will be using liquid latex on their skin however a basic glue and water mixture will be available if there are any latex allergies or concerns.

This workshop will review how to acquire or make all the tools needed, how to make butted chainmail rings out of 14 gauge wire, and how to knit mail. Participants will leave with as much mail as they can finish by class end, and the knowledge to complete the project at home!
