Elegant & simple, Japanese Stab Binding is a classic non-adhesive binding which allows you to bind single flat sheets of paper between soft or hard covers. We will make two examples in this workshop.
Description:
The Tortoiseshell book we will make will have leather covers & a decorative wrapped book block. The Ledger book will be a smaller paper-covered book with a clever paper clasp.
Note: My other class “Introduction to Wrapping Book Covers” compliment this class because you’ll make a custom cover for the book you’ll make in this class.

Epoxy clay is a self-hardening product we will use to create a dragon egg or project of your choice. We will be covering the basics as well as alternative coloring techniques, mold making, & tools.
Description:
Making a dragon egg is a fun & foolproof project for using epoxy clay for the first time. We suggest first timers stick with this project, but for those of you who have some experience with the material, have researched the material, or have a specific goal in mind, feel free to go off track! We will provide the materials for the dragon egg project. If you want to do a different project, please contact us ahead of time so that we can plan accordingly or tell you what you should bring. For those of you interested in other sculptural techniques and materials, consider taking our “Thermoplastic 2.0 Beginning & Advanced Techniques.” Workshop participants are encouraged to bring source material for inspiration or reference. NOTE: Your project will need to cure for at least 24 hours before it can be tossed into your bag without damaging it.

Wood covers, leather straps & exposed stitching along the spine give this book a rustic look you will be proud of.
